Sarah Sweet, wife of Luther, Sr. died Jan. 1850 in Petersburgh, NY, age 66, according to her tombstone and an item in CNYGS's Tree Talks. On the 1855 NY State Census, Sally is listed as "wife" of Luther; she is 68, born RI, living in Berlin, NY. She is not with him on 1860 Census. Who is this new Sally/Sarah?

This is a pretty close match to Sylvester Sweet who was born in EastGreenwich (not North Kingstown) on October 7 of that year, the son of Sylvester and Mary (Johnson) Sweet. The will of Sylvester Sr, written in 1804, mentioned grandson Luther Sweet as son of Sylvester Sweet deceased
Luther b 4/3/1783 ; Benjamin b 1785 ; Polly b 10/21/1787 ;Wanton (my line) b 10/6/1789 Betsey b 8/4/1793 ; Sally b 5/7/1793 ;Phebe b 11/16/1795; Tabitha b 11/16/1797 Harry b 11/27/1798 all in RI.; Lydia b 7/30/1802 in NY.
Betsey is shown above with birth date three months after Sally's. I deduce that her birth year is wrong and probably should be 1791.
The family moved to Petersburg , NY in 1799 via the Mohawk Trail. Three boys reached maturity.
Note that the 1800 census shows Sylvester Sweet Jr still in East Greenwich. The tally has one adult male 26-45, one male 16-26, two boys 10-16, one adult female 26-45, one girl 10-16, and two girls under 10. This is a good match to the list of children shown above, assuming Harry died as a baby, as well as two of the four girls born in the 1790's.

Fran,
The death certificate you included is the best documentary evidence I have yet seen. I'm afraid my conclusion was a "leap of faith" of sorts, but you may be interested in some facts I had written in my notes that remove it from speculation alone:
I was unable to find a marriage date, but I did record that Heman married "Abigail Winters". Referencing the will of Joseph Cannon in 1807, Abigail Winters is listed among his next of kin, along with his other children. Mr. Winters apparently died before 1810, after which time she married Heman Owens.
Also note that Ansel Owens inherited a portion of Benjamin Cannon's estate at "Chestnut Point" in Cannonsville during the latter half of the 19th century. In fact, his home was located next-door to the Cannon family. Ansel Cannon was a brother of Abigail as you may know. Those of the Owens family descended from Heman were later referred to as the "Owens of Chestnut Point", according to Antoinette K. Owens in her Cannonsville memoirs written in 1957, a reference meant to distinguish that line from the John Owens Jr. line that also inhabited Cannonsville at that time.
My search tonight was cursory- I may have further evidence somewhere that I can pass along if found. However I am comfortable with a great degree of certainty that Abigail Cannon and Heman Owens were married- as I'm sure you are as well.
Regards,
Alan Owens

Hello,
Sorry for the delayed response to your email of the 14th- the holidays are a busy time! I'll have to do some checking of my notes to see where I concluded that Abigail Cannon was married to Heman Owens. This is a branch of the family that has been somewhat overlooked, but I've done a lot of research on it in the past. If memory serves, I found their marriage in print somewhere. I'll dig into some notes and books tonight and come up with something more concrete. Stay in touch.

Hi Shirley,

Joan and I have discussed our Beebes a few times but haven't quite connected them to each other. However, I also have a BEEBE ancestor who married into the PIERSALL/PEARSALL line and can tell you about that line. Does this information sound like yours?

John Piersall (son of Samuel Piersall)
b.
m. Emily _____(name not listed in book)
10 children:
-Samuel
-Edward
-David
-George
-Roseltha -m. James Miller
-Elizabeth
-Ellen
-Anna
-Lavinia
-Jane

The Piersall/Pearsall line is a long one and if the above Roseltha is indeed your Emily Roseltha Piersall, then you can track your Piersall line WAAAAAYYYYY back. Let me know if this information sounds like what you are looking for. I have a thick three volume set on the Piersall/Pearsall line.

If this is your family then your ggggrandmother would be my gggg aunt (if I have enough greats). John Piersall was the brother to my ancestor, Eliza Piersall (b 1829) who married David Beebe (b 1819).

Hope this helps!

In a listing of Deaths reported by the Oneonta City Clerk to The Herald, it listed the following Wrights:
Mina (Graves), d June 19, 1901, age 52 bur Glenwood

These were funeral entries in Rev. Pendleton's Register (Free Baptist church, now Main St. Baptist in Oneonta)

Wright, Mrs. Alvin; Insane; Binghamton- at 6 Fair St., Oneota -Glenwood 12/13/12
This must be the infant you mentioned but there was no entry in Glenwood's book as to his burial.
