    Fran,
The death certificate you included is the best documentary evidence I have yet seen. I'm afraid my conclusion was a "leap of faith" of sorts, but you may be interested in some facts I had written in my notes that remove it from speculation alone:
I was unable to find a marriage date, but I did record that Heman married "Abigail Winters". Referencing the will of Joseph Cannon in 1807, Abigail Winters is listed among his next of kin, along with his other children. Mr. Winters apparently died before 1810, after which time she married Heman Owens.
Also note that Ansel Owens inherited a portion of Benjamin Cannon's estate at "Chestnut Point" in Cannonsville during the latter half of the 19th century. In fact, his home was located next-door to the Cannon family. Ansel Cannon was a brother of Abigail as you may know. Those of the Owens family descended from Heman were later referred to as the "Owens of Chestnut Point", according to Antoinette K. Owens in her Cannonsville memoirs written in 1957, a reference meant to distinguish that line from the John Owens Jr. line that also inhabited Cannonsville at that time.
My search tonight was cursory- I may have further evidence somewhere that I can pass along if found. However I am comfortable with a great degree of certainty that Abigail Cannon and Heman Owens were married- as I'm sure you are as well.
    Regards,
    Alan Owens

    Hello,
Sorry for the delayed response to your email of the 14th- the holidays are a busy time! I'll have to do some checking of my notes to see where I concluded that Abigail Cannon was married to Heman Owens. This is a branch of the family that has been somewhat overlooked, but I've done a lot of research on it in the past. If memory serves, I found their marriage in print somewhere. I'll dig into some notes and books tonight and come up with something more concrete. Stay in touch.

Abigail signed her name as Abigal Winters on her father's probate papers in 1807. In a family history written by Alice Cannon Brown and her husband Mckay it is stated that she married Mr Owens and that two of her grandchildren are buried in the Stoughtan Cemetery in Dane County, WI.
Shirley Becker has her great great Grandmother's death certificate that states her mother was Abigail Cannon, born in Delaware County, NY . The following is E-mails received from Shirley.

    # Note:
Joseph Cannon and his wife Abigail Dexter moved to Cannonsville sometime
after 1796. I located Joseph Cannon, Clark Cannon, Blossom Cannon and
Wait Cannon on the 1800 Census for Delaware County NY. They had a son
Wait that came to Cannonsville in 1796. This was ten years after Jesse
Dickinson first ascended the Delaware,(River). The following is the
Cannon Family History written about 1892, and on file with the Delaware
    Historical Society, Delaware County, NY.
Wait Cannon brought his wife from Sharon, CT. all the way on horseback
to this then wild and dreary wilderness of pines, much the way with no
road but the Indian trail. Wait Cannon put up the house where Samuel
Hathaway now lives, and lived there until his death in 1804. His age was
about 24 years. Wait Cannon left three children, Wait, Eliza and
Persis. Wait Cannon had a brother Joseph to came to Pinefield. His
homestead was on the farm now owned by G.L. Hoag (for many years owned by
John Fletcher.) Wait Cannon, son of Wait and Persis Cannon married Sarah
Jones. He was at one time in the mercantile business in Masonville. He
went from there to Wilkes-Barre, PA and died there leaving a large family
of children. Eliza, Daughter of Persis, daughter of Wait and Persis
Cannon, married Abram G. Miller. She left two children,Hariet and
Helen. Harriet Miller is Mrs. D.C. Smith of Delhi. Helen died two years
    ago.
    # Note:
Mr and Mrs Miller spent most of their lives in Cannonsville, (kept
the hotel many years.) She died past 70 years and he was past 90 at the
time of his death. He came from New Berlin when a small child with his
father and family, who settled on the farm on the east side of the
Delaware, opposite Speedwell mountain, now owned by Henry Squires. Abram
was the only one of the family who remained here. He was a soldier in the
    was of 1812.
    # Note:
Joseph Cannon (brother to Wait) was married twice, his first wife,
Harty(?) died in 1810, aged 21. She left 2 Children Roxy and Elisha.
Roxy married William Underwood. They moved to New Berlin and both died
there. Elisha married Catharine Huyck, daughter of Andrew Huyck. Later
he married Mrs. Betsy Fuller. Elisha Cannon had two sons in the War of the Rebellion. (Civil War) Clark the oldest died in the service,
and Joseph the youngest, was seriously wounded. (I believe that the
Joseph Cannon in the Revolution was Joseph Cannon #1, listed by the DAR.
Elisha would have been too young to have sons in the Revolution.)
    # Note:
On a tombstone in the cemetery is this inscription: "Here lies
Harty, wife of Joseph Cannon, died March 1810, at 21." "Ebenezer C.,
Joseph C., and Rachel C. by her side."
    # Note:
Joseph Cannon's second wife was Rachel Huyck a Sister to Andrew
Huyck. And the children of the second wife were (living) Ephriam, Betsy,
and Joseph Cannon. Joseph and his family went west and was living in
Wisconsin a few years ago. Wait and Joseph Cannon had a brother, Blossom
and a sister Abigail. Blossom died leaving a daughter, Abigail, whom her
grandmother brought up. She married James Gauley and she died leaving 3
sons, one of whom is now living.
    # Note:
Besides the children of Joseph and Abigail Cannon there were two
nephews, their names being Benjamin and Nathaniel. 17 Sept 1817,
Benjamin Cannon married Persis, the widow of his cousin, Wait Cannon.
They had three children. Benjamin, Eliza and George B. Benjamin Cannon,
Sr., was Justice of the Peace. He was the first postmaster in the first
post office at Teedville, now called Trout Creek. The name Pinefield,
and Mr. Teed was its first postmaster. The great Espous Turnpike passed
through Trout Creek which extended from Kingston to Ithaca and was a
stage route. It is possible that that was the first highway laid out
within the limits of the town.
    # Note:
Benjamin Cannon built the hotel now owned by Henry Durfee, in 1813
or 1814. In 1817 he gave a deed of the land where the old schoolhouse
used to stand, and where the Babtist church now stands, also a deed for
the land for a cemetery with the road leading thereto; to 2 trustees,
Martin Lane and Caleb Smith. If the land where the schoolhouse was built
was ever used for any other purpose than for a school the land reverted
to the heirs of the said Benjamin Cannon. Also if the land where the
cemetery now is, is ever used for any other purpose than a cemetery, it
shall revert to the heirs of the donor. The deed is recorded in the
    county clerk's office in Delhi.
    # Note:
According to the conditions of the deed, when the first schoolhouse
was no longer used as a school building, Benjamin Cannon, son of the
giver, bought the old building he owning the lands. He sold the property
to the Baptist society who used the old school building for meetings
until they built the church now occupying the same site.
    # Note:
Benjamin Cannon was a very generous man, kind to the poor and
thoughtful for the welfare of others. His house was a refuge for many
who needed comfort and aid. His wife carried the same spirit of
kindness. He died in 1839, aged 63, His wife, Persis Cannon died in
    1859, aged 81 years.
    # Note:
Benjamin Cannon, son of Benjamin and Persis Cannon, was a lawyer,
graduated from Union College in 1840. He married Ann Miller, A Daughter
of Epaphras Miller of Oxford. He was County Clerk of Delaware County.
He built the house and laid out the beautiful grounds of "Chester Point"
now owned by E.W. Owens. He was Justice of the Peace for many years.
He was interested in the public's welfare and all the good causes. He
moved to Oxford in 1873 and died there. (must have been written about
1890) He left 3 children, Robert M, who lives in Buffalo, and Elizabeth
    B. who is Mrs. Archibald of Scranton,(NY) and Charles B, in Norwich, who
    now resides in Oneonta.
    # Note:
Eliza, daughter of Benjamin and Persis Cannon, married Erastus
Edgerton, of Franklin, who has been for may years a prominent banker of
    St. Paul, MN.
    # Note:
George B, the youngest son of Benjamin and Persis Cannon married Ann
Eliza, daughter of Eligah White, of Franklin. They had two sons, one of
whom has been comptroller of the currency. George Cannon resided in New
    York City.
    # Note:
Nathanial Cannon, Brother of Benjamin Cannon, Sr, was a blacksmith.
He built a house where M.W. Owens house now stands. He was four times
married, the first three wives each dying in the 40th year of her age.
first wife's children were Asahel, Benjamin Tracy, N. Stowell, Carriel
and John. Benjamin T. Married for his first wife Huldah Smith, Daughter
of Caleb Smith. The second wife was Louisa Howland. M. Stowell married
Geanette Rogers, a daughter of Dr. Thomas Rodgers. They are now living
in Chicago. Passed the fifieth anniversary of their marriage last
November. Mariel married Belinda Owens who died many years ago. The
other sons left Cannonvillle when young. Nathaniel Cannon's second wife
was Mrs. Susan Wiest, a sister of Deacon William Hawley of Deposit, and
she left three Cannon children, Fanny Eliza, William and Susan. And
Susan went west, married and was accidently killed many years go.
Nathaniel Cannon's third and fourth wife left no children. Mr. Cannon
sold his home and business to Rev. David W. Nichols and Allen Tinker more
than 40 years ago, then moved to the northern part of the county where
he died soon after. In 1835 Joseph Cannon moved to Chicago, Illinois,
while others went west. (I don't know to whom "others" refers to. This
ends the History of the Cannon Family by an unknown author.)
